Since its formation in 1997, Otley Conservation Task Force (OCTF) has been raising awareness to Otley's built heritage. We encourage authorities not to let Otley's buildings or their settings disappear through ill-advised redevelopment or simple neglect. Otley's character is recognised through Otley Conservation Area and the listed buildings that line the town's streets. We are keen to promote this protection. Our achievements include contributing to the processes that have given key buildings like Wharfedale Union workhouse (the hospital) and Otley Liberal Club, and Otley Conservation Area generally, a sustainable future. Instead of the demolition that faced the Liberal Club, for example, it was converted into apartments, and so remains to grace the streets of Otley for years to come. We also made a significant contribution to Leeds City Council's Otley Conservation Area Appraisal, which was adopted in 2003. Otley Conservation Task Force meets at approximately six week intervals in Otley Civic Centre. Contact: Ian Andrew tel: 01943-465398 www.communigate.co.uk/brad/octf |
